Gravity Renewables completed its acquisition of Pawtucket No. 2 Hydroelectric Facility, which is housed in the historic Bridge Mill Power Plant on the Blackstone River.

The site first generated electricity in 1896 and served as the main source of power for Pawtucket as well as neighboring Woonsocket. In 1983, the Bridge Mill Power Plant was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, called “perhaps the finest nineteenth-century example” of a functioning power plant.

“We are honored to take over operations at such a historic and productive small hydro location,” said Mark Boumansour, Gravity Renewables’ Chief Operating Officer. The plant generates enough electricity to power 492 homes annually.

“Gravity Renewables proved itself a solid partner in this transaction,” said Charles Rosenfield, former principal/operator of the Pawtucket plant.  “Gravity staff was reasonable, well organized and helpful throughout the process. I feel confident the plant will be well cared for.”  Rosenfield will be retained as a consultant for the project and Pawtucket’s current operating staff will remain in place.
