Stockbridge, MA – Gravity Renewables, a leading national owner and operator of small hydro projects, announced today that it has acquired two hydroelectric facilities in Western Massachusetts, the Glendale project in Stockbridge, MA and the Texon project in Russell, MA.
Gravity notified the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) of the change in ownership for the Texon facility earlier this week. Relatedly, last month the FERC granted the transfer of the Glendale facility to a Gravity affiliate. Both facilities were previously owned by Littleville Power Company, Inc, a wholly owned subsidiary of Enel Green Power North America, Inc.
“We are excited to expand our geographic footprint into Massachusetts with the addition of Glendale and Texon facilities,” said Ted Rose, Gravity Renewables’ CEO. “Gravity looks for historic projects which can be preserved to provide continued economic value and clean power to the local region. These facilities fit that bill.”
History and Background:
The Glendale hydroelectric facility is comprised of five units totaling 1.14 megawatts (MW) of capacity. It is located on mile 122 of the Housatonic River in the town of Stockbridge, Berkshire County, MA. The facility offers recreational access and parking for canoeing and bank fishing. Its powerhouse is listed in the National Register of Historic Places in recognition of its engineering and industrial uses dating back to 1900.
The Texon hydroelectric facility has a rated capacity of 1.5 MW from a single unit located on mile 24 of the Westfield River in Russell, Hampden County, MA. It contains river access for canoeing and fishing.
Each facility has completed a rigorous certification process and been recognized by the Low Impact Hydropower Institute for its environmental benefits. Combined, the two facilities generate enough power to electrify over 1,500 Massachusetts households.
